I’ve always loved stories with a little darkness at the edges.
I’m a British-Danish writer living on England’s Jurassic Coast, and I write dark psychological suspense where landscape has a habit of becoming a character.
I’ve always been drawn to suspenseful stories in unusual settings, especially the kind that leave you looking at the darkened hallway differently once you’ve put the book down.
I came to fiction later in life, after a long career translating other people’s words while also raising my two daughters.
In 2016 I completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Exeter and began writing short fiction. Some of my stories went on to appear in the Bath Short Story Anthology, and I also won the Acorn Prize for Best New Writer.
Then came six years of early mornings, late nights and weekends of relentless drafting of my first novel. The result was The Bone Tide, a dark psychological thriller about female rage, Nordic folklore and what can happen when women decide the law has failed them.
The Bone Tide was highly commended in the Caledonia First Novel Award and went on to be pre-empted by Grand Central Publishing. It will be published in July 2027.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy helping other writers through the long, strange business of finishing a novel and getting it out into the world. In between I can be found walking the coast with my Border Collie, reading something dark, or collecting landscapes and characters I know will find their way into my stories eventually.
